My name is Sara Charles and I am a book historian at the University of London. I enjoy 'historical remaking', where I recreate manuscript production techniques to understand the practices of the past.
By thoroughly immersing myself in the making process, I can experience the smells, textures and sounds that medieval manuscript makers would have encountered, and I can appreciate problems or difficulties that they would have faced in their everyday working lives.
These remaking experiences inform my research and allow me to share my findings with those interested in medieval manuscripts, art history and crafting.
These pages are shared for the benefit of learning. I am happy for you to use my images, but please do credit me and provide a link to my website.
